Catalysts of immigration

Reader comment on item: Europeans Fleeing Eurabia
in response to reader comment: REALITY OF THE SITUATION

Real One, I cannot speak for migration patterns in your area, but the US offers several examples of immigration that was not based (completely) upon economics. From our origin (as a Western Nation), Europeans found religious freedom here. The South Vietnamese found an escape from the communist North. The Cubans found a similar escape from Castro. Surely our largest patterns in recent history (Irish, Italian, and Mexican) have been due to economic circumstances.

Not sure if you are in Europe or not - How about all of those Muslims and Africans that show up asking for "asylum" only to end up on the dole?

The US has prospered -in the short term- with the global economy. We have sold ourselves short, however, in that we no longer manufacture much of anything here. We are no longer self sufficient as we once were.
