Unite and Conquer

Reader comment on item: Is Israel Victory Still Needed?

There are two opposing coalitions forming. On the one hand, we have the a collection of pragmatists: mainly the moderate Sunnis, like Egypt and the Gulf states, plus Israel, and ethnic groups like the Kurds. On the other hand we have ideological fanatics and imperialists: the PLO, ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Turkey, Russia, China and Western leftists.
For the latter group, the "Palestinian" cause is a focal point. This cause was originated by the Soviets after the 67 war as a clever inversion of reality designed to portray Israel as a Goliath against the Arab David. Thus was born the mythical "Palestine" and "Palestinian people", and the hook was set to reel in the progressive Left and also for increased Russian influence in a region with a tradition of religious discrimination.
Altogether, this union of far left and far right forces, the red-green alliance, is impressive in its diversity and strength. In an all-out conflict, should those forces coordinate, should the Left be empowered as Dr. Pipes warns, the moderate coalition would be severely challenged, if not totally defeated. The Gulf states are especially vulnerable.
It can be surmised that much of the change of heart towards Israel on the part of some Arabs stems from a cold analysis of this rather dire situation and its ominous implications for their survival. Surely, they have been concerned with the rise of those forces who want them gone, and they know that Israel is not one of them. In fact, now they and Israel have something in common. They must understand that "Palestine" is the cause which they are obliged to outwardly support while being inwardly fearful of the menace it inspires, and so they ride the tiger, victims of their own prejudices.
The task ahead is to unite the moderates, by supporting them diplomatically and militarily, and by not continuing to harp on the artificial cause which lies at the heart of their opponents' propaganda. With this approach, we can continue to expand the moderate coalition until evil is defeated physically and ideologically, and all the people of the region can have a better life.
