Reader comment on item: This Time, the Far-Left Surge Might Succeed

Sorry for being "slow" to respond to this. I just read the Hanson article.

https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/hanson-why-this-revolution-isnt-like-the-60s

He added this line: "Unlike the 1960s, there are essentially no conservatives in Hollywood, on campuses or in government bureaucracies."

That's a tremendous difference I noticed, between now and the "Sixties".

I was overseas in 1967, when race riots destroyed part of my home town. Like you, Daniel, I was "unhip" in my first year of college; nor was I "hip" in my first year in the US Army. During the early 1970s, though, I had very much joined the Conterculture -- except that around 1972, when I was still in the Army, it quickly shifted from the universities, Haight-Ashbury and the ghettoes to the "Back to the Land" movement. For all my efforts to empathize and become involved in the great "happening", my children seem to think of me as just another variation on "square".

I grew up in Wisconsin, and now live in Oregon, both of which have lately become the epicenters of the current madness. In contrast to your analysis and Hansen's, I see the problem as primarily the fruit of a nation that has abandoned God -- and I lay the guilt primarily on our own "Boomer" generation. A late friend of mine once noted, accurately, that Christians tend to see that the world is heading straight to hell, so they try to head toward hell a little bit more slowly. They still end up in hell.
