Dear Mr Pipes,

while I agree with you about the ugliness of so called contemporary art and architecture I cannot share your view of the buildings in Bologna shown in the picture as Stalinist-style buildings.
They are an example of architecture form the 20ies 30ies (fascist style would be a more appropriate term) and during that period architecture and art in Italy had nothing to envy to the Renaissance.
The ugly buildings came only after the War.
While Italy is admired everywhere for its treasures I think there is an overemphasis towards the Renaissance or Ancient Rome, while other glorious periods such as the late Middle Ages or the Belle Epoque are often overlooked.
