Reader comment on item: Beauty and Nausea in Venice
in response to reader comment: Sadly provincial

Submitted by rw (United States), Dec 29, 2017 at 04:25

Meanwhile, all over the world thousands and thousands of artists are painting lovely pieces, privately. My area of knowledge is poetry. In the public sphere, a great deal of what goes on is as you say with the fine arts - designed to confuse. there are multitudes writing privately with beauty in mind; I used to work with a farmer, a thoughtful, sensitive man; he wrote a wonderful sonnet reflecting on first seeeing the Matterhorn. What does this mean? I think it's that it's the intellectual world that has gone so wrong. Life with the search for beauty and goodness goes on undercover.
