Erdogan's base of support is ignorant Islamic peasants. They believe Qur'an; they believe the Jews poison wells; they believe anything their mullahs tell them -- because to not believe, means getting arrested and tortured. Therefore, if Erdogan says the AKP got 49% of the vote, then the AKP got 49% of the vote. As you say, "getting the numbers up" is no problem. Viz,
