.."What you may really want is not a moderate from of Islam but Islam-lite, because there's no way that the world can live even with a moderate form of Islam..."

The trouble is - 'islam-lite' would only remain islam-lite while muslim numbers were smaller than numbers of adherents of other teachings. Once there was the slightest chance of invoking full islam - true 'reformers' would magically appear and be out in force invoking the 'real' islam and vilifying 'islam-liters' as being insipid and not true muslims.

islam is based on the pursuit of power - always vying for supremacy in the marketplace of ideas -. It's never about realisation and enlightenment.
