Taking a different identity

Reader comment on item: What Antidote to Radical Islam?

Submitted by Sufi (Lithuania), Mar 4, 2015 at 01:58

A good idea would be to strongly encourage moderate Muslims to completely dissassociating from (radical) Islam and taking up a different identity altogether - e.g Sufi Muslims or maybe Sufis simply and not considering any more Salafis and Jihadists as being their "brethren" in faith according to the principle stated in Qur'an - "we do not worship what you worship, you do not worship what we worship; to you your religion, to us our religion"(words of the Prophet Muhammed said to Mekkan polytheists). In another words - "if you are Muslims then we are not Muslims, if we are Muslims then you are not Muslims".

Going out of religion altogether is one way, but it maybe not acceptable to many in the islamic world. Parting formally ways with radical elements but keeping the faith could be another option.
