Turkey, and it's competitors for Europe accession.

Reader comment on item: Is Turkey in Europe?

Submitted by Jon, a Brit in Euroland (France), Jul 16, 2013 at 10:07

Seems to me that while one can see the advantages for Turkey of getting into the club, not least the free movement of people, even if deferred for some years, once can see few for Europe. If the EU "really has to find additional members" (a proposition I see no particular reason to agree with) perhaps India would have a number of significant advantages:

It would put a full stop to the "EU foreign policy" and the dragon lady presently representing such;

It would provide cheap labour, but of very hard working people, and first class engineers

It would open massive new markets, of people who speak English !

It would put the EU on the map as a developing economy !
