Dr. Pipes

I wanted to share with you and the readers the response of the Egyptian media and their talk shows the likes of Amr Adeeb's show as well as ordinary Egyptians to the Boston Marathon bombing

1. I keep hearing it "we hope that this bombing was not done by Muslims or Arabs."

2. Egyptians seem to be very moved by the immediate activation of the EMS in Boston and they compare it with the lack of care for the victims of violence in Egypt and that many of the victims in Egypt die

3. Everyone seems to be impressed by what they call el-shafafiyya (or the transparency) of the whole system where the president as well as the FBI and the local police are being available and frank and they inform the public about what is going on and they are very impressed by the empathy of our leaders and they compare it with the lack of care or empathy of Morsi and his government and the issue of the fact that Morsi is usually no place to be found during national disasters as in the case of the train accidents the likes of the accident where many children were victims and then compare it to the reaction to the death of the 8 year old in Boston.

4. The best comment I heard here was a listener who said that may be it is better that Morsi does not say anything following such tragedies after all what he will come up with would be lies and no more

5. I also had the chance to listen to comments made by Egyptian Muslims that live in the US and some of them are really strange and one was from a woman who lives in Brooklyn, NY who claimed that her young daughter who is a muhaggaba (read this as she wears al-hijab) is being told that she is a "dirty" Muslim and she cannot get jobs and that she and her husband are subjected to daily abuse by "Americans" but when told then why do you live in the US? Her answer was: We love it here! Now go figure

6. One of the persons who called commented on how the streets in Boston are clean, even with such disaster, when compared with the streets of Cairo where the whole city seems to be falling apart
