Morsi imposes martial law

Reader comment on item: Morsi Could Discredit Muslim Brotherhood Rule
in response to reader comment: Morsi's honeymoon period

Dear Dr Pipes:

As I said in the above message, academics should study Islamic societies to explain their plight. Islamic brotherhood comes to power in Egypt after a democratic election after decades of draconian rule. So what can go wrong? A country that is 90% Muslim gets to rule itself under Islamic rule under the leadership of people who call themselves a brotherhood.

Then why does the honeymoon last only six months. Why do these people need a martial law so soon after a ground breaking election? But our academics are too busy being liberals, not saying politically correct things, and organizing pseudo-intellectual conferences without speaking the truth. The fact of the matter is that if a society has to defend a set of principles under all circumstances, it will fall into violence (Because --believe it or not-- violence is the cheapest way to defend an idea; Mao, Stalin, Hitler tried it).
