Turkey will stay in NATO

Reader comment on item: Is Turkey Leaving the West?

Submitted by Nazim Cairo (United Kingdom), Feb 7, 2013 at 05:58

Mr Pipes - and who will dare to undertake such a step of removing or suspending Turkey from NATO? Turkey will never leave NATO and EU bid on her own accord - as Davutoglu recently tweeted" no one can deny Turkey a Western sphere of influence".

Knowing AKP leadership they will not do so willingly, outside Europe and with minimal geopolitical influence Turkey will not be able to block Israel for example. Eventually Turkey will force European countries to sign a visa-free agreement. With Russia there is way too much friction under the surface it will never work.. Arab states are still extremely weak and chaotic and relying on their support is wishful thinking.
