Embrace of Marx has been destructive

Reader comment on item: The Orthodox Future of Judaism

Submitted by Cal Miller (Australia), Jan 26, 2005 at 19:44

May I add that one of the most destructive elements amongst Jews, both in Europe and the US, has been their broad embrace of far-left and Marxist politics, even Stalinism, if one can believe it.
The secular, leftist Jew is a grim paradox, and hopefully one whose presence will diminish if Mr Pipes' prediction about the growth of orthodoxy eventuates.
Throughout Europe, the left, far-left and radical left have all been increasingly and noisily anti-semitic, yet there has been no large scale abandonment of the leftist spectrum by Jews who have supported left-wing causes. Such anti-semitism is also true in Canada, the US and Australasia, although perhaps to a lesser extent.
It is time for secular and "tepid" Jews to wake up and smell the coffee. Marx and his kin are not, and have never been, your friends or allies.
