Since the recent pogrom and liitle jihad by the Egyptian army against the Copts in Cairo I was really surprised to know that in Egyptian Arabic the word el-gehadiyya or الجهادية (yes from the word al-jihad) means military service! (ref: Badawi and Hinds dictionary of Egyptian Arabic page 178A) and the word gehadi or جهادي (and yes it is from the word al-jihad) means military recruit (ibid page 178A)!

I do not have any doubt that the word jihad means holy war period!

So much for the "smaller jihad"!
