America nurtured Bin Laden & Al-Qaeda

Reader comment on item: How Islamists Came to Dominate European Islam

Submitted by Nafata Bamaguje (Nigeria), May 28, 2010 at 16:08

The Pullitzer-winning Ian Johnson didn't need a historical ride to the early and mid 20th century to show the stupidity of Western support for Islamists.

In the 1980s America funded and armed Islamists in Afghanistan in their Jihad against the Soviet Union. Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda were by-products of that jihad that boomeranged against the United States in 9/11.

Unfortunately, it appears America has learnt nothing from that unfortunate experience, as Obama connives with Palestinian Islamists and other radical Muslims to sabotage Israel. All in a naive but futile attempt to appease Islamists supposedly to end terrorism.

In the unlikely event Israel is destroyed, Islamists will be emboldened (not pacified as Obama seems to think) to cause even more havoc in other Jihad theatres around the world.

Ask the Algerians, Egyptians and Saudis who had to deal with convulsions caused by returnee mujaheeds from the successful Afghan jihad.
