Not just a white elephant

Reader comment on item: White Elephant in Baghdad

Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Mar 30, 2010 at 19:52

An embarrassment to the US, this "white elephant" is nothing compared to the entire war in Iraq, which not only the US has spent millions of dollars on, but has had the unfortunate effect of alienating most of the world.
When the US attacked Baghdad back in March of 2003, I was living in Cairo. It was a very tense time, and many US citizens in Egypt wondered at the sense of war in Iraq, especially considering if this war was in fact a retaliation for 9/11, then why attack Iraq? The pilots who perpetrated the evil deeds of flying planes and crashing into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, were Egyptian and Saudi, and yet we did not attack Egypt or Saudi Arabia.

There have always been so many unanswered questions about this war and there will continue to be so; in the history books of the future, this war may be called "The War That Everyone Wants To Forget."
