Reader comment on item: Islamist Paintball, Anyone?

Submitted by Brian Asbury (United States), Apr 2, 2007 at 08:23

Mr. Pipes,

I am student at Embry Riddle. I am not Muslim, in fact white male. I am also a U.S. Marine who has served two tours in Iraq. My point is I am someone who is trained to recognize and deal with "terrorists."

I happened to personally know Mr. Khatib. I can tell you he is not associated with any terrorists organizations. Hypothetically, if he or any of this associates were, we have a very large military presence on campus that would recoginize this and would report it. But let me reemphasize that he is not.

So I will nicely ask you once, to refrain from your slandering on Mr. Khatib as you have no evidence to support your claim.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Take another look at my blog, for all it says is this:

Mansfield and Epstein, joined by Joe Kaufman, provide more information in "Paintballing for Allah" at FrontPageMag.com. ... They provide a couple of new instances of Islamist paintball:

Nowhere do I mention terrorism, nowhere do I mention Mahmoud Khatib. There is no slander here.

And, as I wrote in an earlier response, if the FrontPageMag.com article authors acknowledge they made a mistake in their research, I will indicate that on my blog.

Slander indeed - although for a blog, I would suggest the proper term is "libel." If that seems too specific, try "defamation." [79 words]
