We should put ourselves in their place to defend our free and secular societies

The best thing you can do, is read about islam, and how their teachings have nothing to do with freedom of speech, freedom of religion or any freedom for that matter.
See how they on average treat the women, moslim women and non-moslim women.
See how islam acts in moslim controlled countries: barbaric to say the least.

And as soon as someone dares to speak against this, you get riots and what not.

It is high time, that the Western World (roughly Europe, Canada and US) together with other freedom loving secular countries, to do exactly what they are doing: send spies to their mosques, to know and understand what moslims learn and to prevent the spreading of this devastating ideology (disguised as religion).
