Reader comment on item: ISIS Rampages, the Middle East Shakes

Submitted by Mark Werfel (United States), Jun 12, 2014 at 20:30

I was taught about the region at a military college in the 1980's. Iraq needs a strong Sunni leader (where is Saddam when we need him?) to dominate the domestic Shia minority and Iran's Shia government. Kurds are distributed across several nations to keep the Turks and oil markets happy. No one wants the rabid so-called Palestinians ( meaing the Jordanians not in Jordan, who lost/left in wars with Israel -- Dr Pipes is right, send 'em to Saudi Arabia). Oil confuses us and our polices, so we deal with bad guys -- and this is just one more result. Anyone wanna buy a $1 Billion plus US Embassy in Bagdhad? Khobar Towers? 9-11? Oil fueled robbery of free Western nations?

Think realistically -- and look at history to see if you're really aware: e.g., about American loss of life and treasure, and know we (legislators, Presidents, intelligence and military communities) knew better then. What did we get? Prince Bandar's cigars.
