Saddam?

Reader comment on item: Happy Israel

Submitted by Francis Brooke (United States), Jun 5, 2013 at 21:52

Daniel,

Perhaps the removal of Saddam Hussein's genocidal, war-mongering, terrorist dictatorship, responsible for deadly Scud missile attacks, suicide bombers and the world-wide focus for violent anti-Israel Arab Nationalism wasn't such a bad development after all. It might even have led to the military encirclement of Iran, Gadhaffi gone, "Syria and Egypt consumed by internal problems, [and] the existential threat they once posed to Israel ... nearly disappeared."

Daniel Pipes replies:

I have always favored eliminating the monster Saddam Hussein. I just did not believe in spending 5,000 lives and a trillion dollars to re-make Iraq in our image.
