The beauty of Pipes is that he picks out all those who try to hide somewhere in the shades of grey, trying to enjoy the best of both worlds. It is good to find out who are "moderate" Muslims and who are not because many are opportunists who would simply use the label and won't come-up with clear answers to the questions posed by Pipes. I would encourage Pipes to further refine the questions and demand answers from those who call themselves progressive, moderate and liberal Muslims.
Unlike Friedman and others, who also try to enjoy the best of both worlds, only Pipes has come up with what he considers as "Moderate" Muslims. It would help the self-proclaimed "moderate" Muslims in seeing their face in both the mirrors of fundamentalist Islam and Daniel Pipes. They would be able to see clearly as to whose group they actually belong to: Daniel Pipes' clarification or fundamentalist Islam.
