I find your attitude fascinating. "Islam's Sharia is so complex and so far above you, that any negative attitude you have toward it is purely a fruit of your ignorance!" So that's your argument, uh? It goes a very long way to confirming Mark Durie's analysis of the classic Muslim frame of mind. I thought you wanted to disprove him, not prove him right. Perhaps rather than belittling him, you need to read his book carefully, reflect upon it, and upon your own dismissive attitude. See if you can write a convincing rebuttal to him. See what he writes in return. Answer his concerns in a way that would satisfy someone who knows the issues. My experience will suggest that you will have a hard time doing this honestly, thoroughly or sysemtatically, just because your attitude is dismissive. That wont get you very far in thoughtful circles outside of your own fellow Muslim friends.
