islamism winning the cold war

Reader comment on item: Two Decades of the Rushdie Rules

Submitted by myth (Germany), Sep 28, 2010 at 07:45

I sum up the described developments with the line "islamism winning the cold war". Is it not true that the islamists are the only political thinkers left who actually care about ordinary people's everyday-life, what people thing an believe and personal freedom even if it is for the sake of limiting personal freedom ? The western political class has surrendered all ideas about the individual and freedom to the overall rule of globalized economy and environmental issues. Oddly enough they entertain the idea that it is the muslim minority to fill the now blank spot of what was once "we the people". Imagine some elderly politicians sitting in Moscow remembering the days of the soviet union biting their finger nails thinking "why didn't we threaten cartoonists drawing Breshnev caricatures in the eighties with death ? we would have won the whole cold war, who would have thought it would be all that easy."
