Suicidal Tendency of Democracy

Unfortunately, democracies have a suicidal tendency - they want to protect the democratic rights of the persons who want to undermine and destroy the democracy. It is this paradoxical tendency, which has emboldened Islamists to dare build a Mosque near 9/11 ground zero. Worse, they are getting plenty of support from Americans who are not themselves Islamists. Britain is another example, which pampers the rights of Islamists who are out to destroy freedom of speech in that country.

All creatures possess the instinct of self preservtion. Don't democracies have such instinct? How to institutionalise such an instinct in the democratic governments?

At this rate, freedom of speech will be limited to praising Islam.
