I think this is shallow analysis. I agree totally regarding the balance of power. But that misses the point. The point is about trajectory. If M. wins it be a sea change the likes of which we haven't seen since the 79 revolution. Yes, the Mullahs will remain in power but for how long. If we take seriously the youthful demonstrations this has the potential to begin a new trajectory in Iranian politics.
Am I being naive? Maybe, but then again, maybe not. I think there is a veiled argument here. Dr. Pipes wants A to win so ... an Israeli regime bent on doing little to resolve the 41 year occupation. I think you hope A. wins so that we can maintain old policies and not face a changing Middle East. You may be right, A. may win. But his time is limited. Things are changing in Iran. ... there is real work to be done.
