in response to reader comment: Evangelical anti-Judaism undermines support for Israel

Submitted by Susan Browne (United States), Jul 11, 2008 at 15:34

Dear Ruben,

Your posting represents the views of many Jewish People. As a Christian we are thrilled when heavy weights like Daniel Pipes trusts our extended hand of support for Israel. CUFI not only supports Israel, the members of CUFI love Jews.

First, we believe that any one who blesses the Jews, God will bless. Second, we have finally woken up to the fact that there would be no Christianity, (that we love so much), if it had not been for the Jewish people and their faithfulness to God. Third, some of us who know you well just love you! The Jewish people are awesomely talented. I'm still flabbergasted that though American Jewry is less than 2% of the population (6mm to 300mm) they have contributed 30% of the Nobel Prize winners!

Pastor Hagee likes to emote too much when he talks. If he truly believes God allowed the holocaust to establish Israel (which I do not believe he really thinks) - it doesn't reflect his anti-semitism. It reveals his ignorance of God. There is no doubt that God used the holocast to establish Israel. But God would never massacre "the apple of his eye" in order to get them a piece of real estate. Anyone who thinks he would doesn't understand God very much at all.

You should hear Pastor Hagee go on about Christians he disagrees with - We are all at various stages of maturity spiritually and intellectually. We love Pastor Hagee because he is knitting together the Christians and Jews. The rest of it is between him and God. He will get it someday.

There is some notion afloat that Christians want war in the Middle East to usher in the return of the Messiah. I really can't speak for other Christians, because I don't know what they think. I for one think Christianity's and the USA's lack of support for the Jews in the holocaust is breathtakingly shameful. If it happens again - God will be through with the Christians and the USA.

The survival of Christianity and the USA depends on our protection of the Jews and Israel.

But what is the answer? What happens if Ahmadinejad gets the bomb? Adolph Hitler rose to power and began exterminating 6 million Jews just like he promised in, Mien Kampf. The Western World, including the USA, did not respond, and even closed our doors to Jewish attempts at escape. Now, Ahmadinejad promises to annihilate the 6 million Jews in Israel. If he gets a nuclear bomb, he will have the power to do so. What is the USA going to do this time? Do we wait for another Crystal Nicht to take him seriously?

Of course attacking Iran is a disaster. But how can we protect Israel if this nut won't back off?

Shabat Sholom -

Susan Browne
