The Israelis almost had the West Bank to themselves in 1967. After the war, a substantial majority of the Palestinians were packed and ready to emigrate to other Arab nations unsure of what Israel had in mind for them. Only at the urging of Moshe Dayan, who thought they could all live in peace, did the Palestinian leadership, at that time, persuade their brethren to say put and the rest is history.
Let it be understood that when you go to war you must annihilate the enemy or you create a never ending insurgency!
