Moderate Muslims vs. Islamists

How does one determine who the moderate is? When a Muslim applies for membership in an inter-faith group, how may we be sure that by taking him/her in, we're not harboring someone from the enemy camp? It is essential that we bring those moderates into our groups to ensure a friendly discourse.
