I haven't followed what has been published, because I was exposed to all the intel many years ago.

However, that the Soviets wanted to use the confusion of a Arab-Israeli war to strike and destroy Dimona actually does sound plausible, but that is not what was alleged on this thread or in the articles cited.

I would say a Soviet desire to strike Dimona is very believable and desiring a war to cover a strike on Dimona is adequate motive.

I stick to what I said, that merely overflying Dimona would be safer as a surprise and not worth a lot of extgra effort to provoke a war that the Arabs wanted anyway.

However, I freely concede that striking was a different matter, so it makes the claim much more plausible to me.
