Rescue? Rescue Who?

Reader comment on item: Washington to Rescue Europe's Muslims?

Submitted by Rubicon (United States), May 29, 2007 at 14:24

The last paragraph was confusing and disconcerting. Why would the American military be employed to step into European nations to mount a rescue effort? What standing in law would we have? Even if condoned by the United Nations, the international backlash would be unrelenting.

Additionally, evacuated to where? To America? Why? Why not to repatriate any leaving those nations with their nation of origin? If they want to leave, as this article suggests, it seems to me European governments would be happy to accommodate them under the circumstances the author suggests. If that is the case, it also seems to me those evacuating would want to go home, not somewhere else where they may fear non-acceptance. Besides, why would they want to come to the land of the hated Satan America?

If Muslims in Europe get to the point where they want to leave, things will have gotten pretty bad there. By then, I would say exits would be by any means possible. However, involving the American military in another fiasco is simply crazy to suggest. We cannot rescue everyone from everything. Nor should we be compelled to by legal fiat or by some moralist movement preaching utopia to us!

Assimilation into any culture is difficult. When one clings to "the old country" and its ways as though these are sacrosanct to the culture of your adopted nation, what you are in essence saying is, this place isn't good enough for me, I don't like it here, and I want to make over this place to suit me even if it is against the wishes of those already here.

Under what logic does one seek to destroy the culture of a nation you escaped to? Many folks left those gwat nations where the leaders are elites and religious, who enjoy all the power and wealth while the vox populi enjoy only the oppressions of those same despotic self described leaders? Making over the nation you escaped to, is insane. Socialists or those who grew up under socialism and never knew any other system, always seem to want to destroy nations where the free market has provided the wealth and opportunity folks are "escaping to!"

Many Middle Eastern Muslims escaped to Europe for opportunity. Once there, it seems many of those decided they wanted Europe to become just like the nation they left. They left because there was no opportunity and no wealth accumulation for average people. Add to this governments tied into religious dogma that serves a power elite and radicals, and those folks were escaping, oppression. So why build the same thing in Europe, or anywhere for that matter? Why not adapt to the host nation and accept that you came there to escape what radicals are inciting you to impose on your host nation?

Despotic governments, whether they are dictatorships, communists, socialists, or whatever, always seek to limit wealth accumulation by the people. They seek to deprive the people in any say on how the government is run. And those using dogmatic religion as their guide, always fall back on religious doctrine they have maligned to suit their positions of power. In short, the average guy on the street loses over the long haul.

Capitalism ain't perfect, but it holds out the best opportunity for the average person to have a bank account, own a home, send the kids to decent schools, be able to speak out against that which you disagree, and to keep the government out of everyday decisions for you or the family.

American military should NEVER be used to rescue Muslims from Europe. Its time Europe paid its own way if that need arises and does its own shipping. Shipping back to whence they came, not another drop off.
