You put it as well as it could have been stated. It was always my experience on UC campuses, where I spent several years both as student, and in administration, that in different times (like in the 70s with the SDS, and now in the 2000s with the Muslim activists), that they must be confronted on their own terms. It's unfortunate that Chancellors lack the will in most instances to back any nonliberal causes, and are afraid to stand up to the disrupters who often are encouraged by the faculty, and the very culture of the institution.
