Immigration not in our interest, but abetted by both parties

Reader comment on item: [Australia's] Crisis of illegal immigration

Submitted by Marian Hennings (United States), Jan 7, 2003 at 12:17

More Americans would support use of the U.S. military to protect our borders than they would support a war with Iraq. Our elected officials of both parties, however, have persistently refused to take any measures that would really restrict immigration.
I have heard Emma Lazarus poem quoted ad nauseam on this subject, though I doubt that even she would suggest that we continue to admit people as we have been the last 30 years or so. Our environment and our labor force are suffering the consequences.
