a friend's encounter with Chomsky

Reader comment on item: The Harassing of Noam Chomsky
in response to reader comment: Noam Chomsky is consistently delusional and persuasive, unfortunately

About ten years ago, a good friend from Maine, came to Boston to show Chomsky some original work she had done, based on some Indian pictographs she had found near her home. (She had also studied in New Mexico and Arizona).

When I accompanied her to his office at MIT, she was asked to wait for half an hour. He looked over her work for two minutes and pronounced them un-scholarly, implying that they weren't worthy of his perusal. Two years later she was in Washington D.C. accepting an award for her outstanding scholarship. I had heard from friends on the faculty at MIT that Chomsky was an egomaniac and a self-hating Jew.
