Reader comment on item: The Erratic Career of Western Music in Iran

Submitted by Thomas Earl Cannady (United States), Dec 25, 2005 at 11:27

Does censorship work? I know of no society where censorship has developed into a lasting political and acceptable form of government. It worth noting that when a new political group gets in they very often try the old methods of keeping power including denying freedom of speech. This is a tricky slope monitoring speech, we in America have laws against hurting people with comments but we go to great lengths to make sure we do not stop honest discourse while keeping people from using speech to hurt others. I think Iran is in a tailspin and that soon it will go under of it's own accourd. I hope we do not have to send the overburdened military in to hurt them as we seem to hurt ourselves everytime we go in to stop some form of political repression.
