Dear Dr Pipes,

Because you asked and because I spent my whole Mumbai morning researching Steven Salaita's work, I will dare to teach the teacher and explain to you the meaning of 'moral apparatus exemplifies the very worst facets of imperative patriotism'.

In very simple words, Steven Salaita is saying that your patriotic love for America (or Israel) is immoral.

You may not like it but that is what he said.
