Reader comment on item: How to Answer When Asked for Your Pronouns

Submitted by Ludvikus (United States), Feb 10, 2022 at 10:27

I think the answer to your query relates to the Enlightenment notion of "Tolerance" which may be lost among conservatives. Actually, I have not yet figured out all the variations regarding the acronym LGBTQ.

But my answer is that there are three (3) options:

(1) On a medical chart, not involving Psychology pr Psychiatry, give your genetic state; but if asked by those other 2 medical professionals, give your sexual/emotional preferences.

(2) Here is the easy and polite, privacy-preserving, answer: Tolerance.

(3) But on a Dating Internet Platform, obviously the "correct" answer would be Male or Female for most of us in the Majority of the human species (notice that I did not say race); however, there is the reality of the Minority in the world of several Billion People.

(4) Finally - but rarely - there is the aggressive belligerent attach on us straight people where there is no alternative to the retort: "If you cannot tell by looking at me, than it's non of your f_cking business."

However, the fact or reality is that all the those humans (or huwomans - I'm joking) who choose to identify with the acronym LGBTQ are extremely oppressed, arguably even more so that People of Color or Straight Females. That's why I wish to remind all Conservatives especially of our democratic adage" "Live and let Live."

I think behind this question lies the fact that Conservatives support the "traditional family"; that obviously means supporting "straight" men and women in marriage and parenting. However, that implicitly implies discrimination against those who fall under said acronym.

However, even though you present yourself as a Conservative, Dr. Daniel Pipes, I believe you are Tolerant of Homosexuals (to use the old-fashioned term). But I don't know what your specific and explicit views are on Homosexual Marriage? Or whether you support the right of Gay Couples (or Lesbian Couples) adopting children?

I believe that, like me, your "sexual orientation" is simply that of a Male towards a Female (Human). But that puts you in the Majority. So what is your view regarding the oppressed LGBTQ International Majority?

I do not see how one can address your question - until you present your views on the LGBTQ Question. Here I want to remind you of the so-called Jewish Question (or Jewish Problem) which led to the Holocaust ("Final Solution") and finally to the Jewish State of Israel. Should there be a Country, a Gay Country, where Homosexuals can live as such? I'm only asking that rhetorically to demonstrate the social difficulties which the LGBTQ people endure and suffer. Actually, the Ancient Greeks, history informs us, were quite tolerant of elder men "loving" young men. But that changed drastically with the rise of the Three Abrahamic Religions.

In summary, the answer to the question raised here depends of whether or not Conservatives TOLERATE all the diverse members of this Rainbow Coalition that, Politically, or Ideologically subscribes itself under the rubric of the LGBTQ acronym.

PS 1: L & G & B are relatively easy to understand; I'm now going to research T & Q.

PS 2: Maybe the answer to your questing is not to give the pronoun (you omitted "they/them" by the way), but to specify by choosing one of the five letters: L, G, B, T, & Q?
