Hula hoop revival

Reader comment on item: More Vanished American Words

Submitted by Twitch Viewer (United States), Jan 20, 2022 at 15:55

Well Hula hoops are having a revival with electronic hoops that change color as they move creating abstract changing bands of bright color in a darkened room. No one asks what is a Hula hoop. I checked and people understand Duck and cover but not the reference to a nuclear attack that it once carried. On the other hand I had to look up dungarees recently when it came up as a translation from French so that word doesn't show up in the material I read.
