You shouldn't call it a "Lie." It's just "Taqiya" - aka "Dissimulation" in English.

According to our scholarly American English dictionary,
Merriam-Webster's, the definition of "dissimulation" is
"to hide under a false appearance"

But here is a surprise for you (I think) Dr. Pipes - the word has entered our English language
so that the same Merriam Webster's dictionary defines it directly as:

Definition of "taqiya"
"the principle of practicing the dissimulation of outward conformity permitted Muslims in a hostile or persecuting non-Muslim environment for the sake of their personal safety."

So I think you should "forgive" CAIR because each one of them believes that you are a threat to their "personal safety." I am surprised as you are. Why don't you tell them each that you never meant to compromise their personal safety? They each seem to suffer from "Pipesphobia." I just coined the term. Why not have each of your Readers Email CAIR and ask CAIR to STOP Pipesphobia - because you are a "Man of Peace" (like them?).
