"Arab populations remain more opposed to Israel's existence than their rulers"

Reader comment on item: Reflections on the UAE-Israel Joint Statement

I have a minor quibble with "Arab-speaking" as opposed to "Arab", and a greater problem with "anti-Zionist".

Saying "Arab populations remain more opposed to Israel's existence than their rulers" is understandable and visceral. The formulation you used all but guarantees that a typical viewer would not realize that they wish to eliminate Israel.

A typical viewer will suppose Arab populations take a dim view of some ideology known as "Zionism".

The so-called anti-Zionists all dream of wiping Israel off the map and replacing it with an Arab state known as Palestine.
