Reader comment on item: Is There a Palestinian People? Can It be Defeated?

Submitted by PezDispenser (Israel), Jan 15, 2017 at 13:32

Do you expect the understanding of defeat to be a grassroots understanding among the average Palestinian that will eventually force the hand of their autocratic rulers, a top-down Egypt/Jordan style peace where the Palestinian regime decides peace is in their best interests even when the population continues to be against the idea, or something completely different, such as a second London Agreement, where Israel gives up on the PA and bypasses them in favor of a moderate state actor such as Jordan?

Daniel Pipes replies:

Defeat can be felt bottom-up or top-down, or a combination of the two. I don't know how it will happen in this instance.
