Hi, Lynn

No genealogy of Mary is listed in the Bible, but very early church tradition indicates the following:

FIRST GENERATION

1. Miryam bat Yoakim
Family: Yosef ben Eli

SECOND GENERATION

2. Yoakim
m. Hannah bat Akar

3. Hannah bat Akar
Family: Yoakim
a. Ya'akov ben Zavdai "Boanerges"
b. Yochanan ben Zavdai "Boanerges"

THIRD GENERATION

6. Akar
Occupation: nomad
m. unknown

7. unknown (F)
m. Akar
a. Hismeria bat Akar
Family: unknown (prob. a desc. of Aharon cf. Luke 1:5)
i. Elisheva
Family: Z'kharyah ben Aviyah ben Aharon
A. Jochanan ben Z'kharyah "the Immerser"
B. Elind
b. Hannah bat Akar

There is no record of Mary being a descendant of David; but even if she were, this would not qualify Jesus as being Messiah. The two genealogies through Joseph, however, do. Very early church tradition says Mary was the daughter of Anna and Joachim, and that Anna was the daughter of Akar, a nomad. There is no tradition that speaks of Joachim's parents, nor of any descent from David. Akar's daughter Hismeria was the mother of Zechariah, a priest; so she was probably a descendant of Aaron -- as was also probably Anna, Joachim's wife.
