The "Ism" that will not go away

Reader comment on item: Another Voice Predicting Islamism's Doom

Submitted by Mike Ramirez (United States), Jun 24, 2016 at 08:29

"Islamism" is also reflected in the power struggle between Shia and Sunni sects. This has been going on since the death of Muhammad. I really don't think that such "ism" is going to go away as predicted. The power struggle is a tug of war to see which Islamic sect will dominate the world. That is where this is all headed unless the entire ideology of global dominance, hatred and the call by Shia and Sunni for the subjugation and murder of Jews, Christians, Atheists, Gays, Apostates, etc. is done away with.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Not everything is the same as it was. Islamism is a modern phenomenon and cannot be defeated if it's seen as something medieval.
