Nazis were also left wing

Reader comment on item: In Defense of Europe's So-called Far Right

Submitted by Pam Siegfried (United States), Jan 20, 2015 at 12:15

In your article you say that the so-called "far right" actually have left leaning economic policies. So did the Nazis. They had marriage loans for newlyweds, tract housing, group vacations so the working class could go abroad. They coined the "peoples' car" which we know as Volkswagen for affordable automobiles again for workers. They were environmentalist. So what you have said (inadvertently I'm sure) is "the so-called far right in Europe actually resemble the Nazis in some of their policies".

PS: I am not calling the European "far right" Nazis as I don't know enough about them to have an opinion. I am just saying you might want to offer a different argument for including them in the unity rally.

This is a complex matter. I have covered it in a review of Jonah Goldberg's masterly Liberal Fascism at http://www.danielpipes.org/5355/fascisms-legacy-liberalism
