Hate Speech?Reader comment on item: Why mocking Muhammad is not hate speech Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Oct 1, 2012 at 05:59 In the USA, "hate speech"laws or definitions ought to send up red flags with every lover of the First Amendment. I'm convinced its just a Gramscian ploy to criminalize the thoughts and speech of their political opponents. Yes, we can't shout "fire" in a crowded theater, but it's just too instructive that the heirs of the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, those unabashed admirers of Stalinist regimes everywhere, are now pushing for limits on serious First Amendment rights now that they're running things.
