Is Esposito a paid lobbyist?

Dear Dr Pipes:

Reader Tao wonders if Esposito is a paid lobbyist of Islamic nations or does his work in the larger interest of mankind. I could not say but I also wonder why would a person born and brought up in a free society support a system of belief full of hypocrisy. The Islamic word is full of violence, accords no mentionable rights to non-Muslims, does nothing to ensure freedom (of speech), has no distinction between religion and state, has no democracy worth its name, has highest birth rate of all communities, has fewest scientific or creative discoveries to show, has low literacy, has no visible interest in anything except serving its own interests, and discounting the oil wealth has the lowest productivity and prosperity. Why would any one born outside of such a system, support such a system? I have no reason to doubt Esposito's sincerity and honesty but I still wonder.
