Finally - FINALLY! - good sense prevails in Israel

Reader comment on item: Turkey & Israel – The End of the Affair

Submitted by Raymond in DC (United States), Dec 26, 2011 at 11:17

Some of us a few years ago were warning about continued provision of advanced military goods to Turkey. By then Turkey's growing closeness to Syria and Iran meant the risk of "leakage" was already evident. Yet sales continued apace, including provision of advanced drones used by Turkey against the Kurds.

Political leaders insisted Israel's ongoing relationship with Turkey was a "strategic asset", while military vendors continued promoting such sales, despite the risks, for their own interests. Even now, IAI and Elbit want "compensation" for ordering this sale be cancelled.

If Turkey wants a healthy relationship with Israel, Israel will welcome it. But - contrary to Panetta's suggestion - it was not Israel that created this break, and it's not Israel responsible for repairing it.
