Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach laßt uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand.

Blühe, deutsches Vaterland. :|

Germany is not only the land of Prussian militarism and National Socialism, but also of thinkers who argued for rule of law, and Johannes Althusius, who worked out a theory of federalism in 1613. That a "nationalist" German party would invite a Jewish speaker and advocates alliance with Israel may also be a strong signal that it's no longer your grandfather's German nationalism. Further, considering all the worries in France and elsewhere after 1991, isn't it interesting that the world is by no means a more dangerous place after the fall of the Berlin Wall? If this is the new face of German patriotism, I think most of us can live very comfortably with it.
