Clarify the rationale for objection

Reader comment on item: Tariq Ramadan Gives Up – Then Tries Again

Submitted by Peter Irwin (United States), Jan 22, 2010 at 05:18

Which two organizations did Tariq Ramadan fund? What was their relationship to Hamas? To what extent did he fund them? Was funding these organizations illegal in the US at the time he did so? Is your concern that a US law is being broken and, if so, which one? Are you trying to suppress Prof Ramadan's freedom of speech? While I have no sympathy for Hamas, given its avowed objectives and terrorist activities, I have great sympathy for our Constitution and for open and unfettered public debate of political issues. Let us not take the side of those who consigned Socrates to hemlock but, as is our heritage, take on and defeat toxic ideas in our agora.

What is this, the third degree? If you did a modicum of research, you would find all these answers for yourself.

As for the two organizations he funded, Ramadan mentions them himself. See the Sept. 25, 2006 update at http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2004/12/tariq-ramadan-gives-up-then-tries-again.. In an update the next day, I provide the nams of the organizations..
