Palestinians are a defeated people

Reader comment on item: Moshe Ya'alon's "Harsh" and "Heartless" Comment about the Palestinians

Submitted by Lily Flacks (Canada), Aug 9, 2009 at 08:05

There is power in words, and with the words come legitimacy. I believe we need to change our words and thus our thinking. It is a historical fact that almost 80% of Palestine is now Jordan, and almost 80% of the people currently living in Jordan had once lived in that area of Palestine. It is also a historical fact that the name Jordan was created from whole cloth. It is also fact that the vast area of Palestine was given away to the family of the present rulers of Jordan. This family continues to rule Arab Palestine. Thus it is to Jordan that the "Palestinian" Arabs need to focus their attention and their desire to claim a nation of their own. It is from the Jordanian rulers that the "Palestinian" Arabs need to demand the "Right of Return"; a right continually denied to them.

It is from the Jordanian rulers that the "Palestinian" Arabs, within Jordan and in exile, need to demand the name be changed to Palestine. And it is from the Jordanian rulers that the "Palestinians" Arabs need to demand reparations for sixty years of exile. Thus the "Palestinian" Arabs are not a defeated people, they are a fairly recent (in historical terms) "nation" whose home base is the area of Palestine now illegitimately known as Jordan. Israel has belonged to the Jewish people for millennia (not sixty years, Mr. Obama), and is the eternal home of the nation of the Jewish people. I would respectfully direct the hundred of millions of Arabs and hundred of millions of Muslims world wide to direct their attention toward the Illegitimate rulers of Jordan; that is, if they are sincere about declaring themselves a "people" and claiming a land of their own. P.S., the area of Jordan is vast, has lots of resources, and a stable society. Something for the "Palestinian" Arabs to think about?... Lily
