Muslim YouthsReader comment on item: Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy – An Islamist Charter School in Minnesota? Submitted by Iftikhar Ahmad (United Kingdom), Sep 20, 2008 at 01:33 Salaam Children who attend Muslim schools are selected purely on the basis of their Islamic faith and their parents' wish to choose a school in which their children can both practise their religion and have the widest possible choice of educational opportunities. Racism and Islamophobia in state schools have been contributing substantially to the alienated of Muslim youths. Majority of Muslim children leave schools with low grades because monolingual non-Muslim teachers are not suitable to teach English to bilingual children. Muslim children need to learn and be well versed in English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. They also need to learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry.Muslim schools teach religious tolerance and harmony with others as a part of the curriculum. It is not about separating people, it is about offering an option to parents who want it.
